Hendersonville is in Sumner County, northeast of Nashville, along the shoreline of Old Hickory Lake, a reservoir on the Cumberland River. The lake shapes much of the city: coves, marinas, and lakeside parks run along its edge. Some neighborhoods have water frontage or nearby lake access, and many others sit inland on established streets.
The main routes are Vietnam Veterans Boulevard (State Route 386), a freeway that links Hendersonville with I-65 toward Nashville and with Gallatin to the northeast, and its parallel surface road, US 31E, which carries much of the city’s retail, dining, and everyday services.
Housing includes established neighborhoods with homes from several decades, lakefront and lake-view properties, and newer subdivisions away from the shoreline. Old Hickory Lake is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, so if a dock or shoreline use matters to you, ask about the shoreline rules for a specific property early. Gallatin sits farther up the 386 and 31E corridor, and Goodlettsville and White House are a short drive west toward I-65.
